"Growing up outside Anoka, coming from a family of teachers and farmers, being fairly well-rounded and loving the outdoors, I was always interested in rural medicine – it seemed like it'd be a good fit. This interest was piqued in medical school at the University of Minnesota, when I applied for a position in the Rural Physician Associate Program, a program whose mission is to entice young providers to pursue careers in rural primary care. I was accepted into the program and spent the majority of my third and fourth years of medical school ""apprenticing"" with some amazing family doctors out in Montevideo, Minnesota. My medical school advisor, knowing of this goal, suggested I look into the University of Missouri's family medicine residency, as its mission was to train rural primary care doctors.
